Time is Up: End of Skill Game Era, Blame Game Begins

Photo Credit: Julia Kramer/The Center Square (The Center Square) – A multi-year push to legalize so-called “skill games” being operating in clubs, bars, and other small organizations around Pennsylvania may be over, and Rep. Russ Diamond said Monday “there are lots of people to blame and most of them work in the Capitol.” The statement from Diamond, a Lebanon County Republican, came after the Supreme Court on Friday denied formal requests to extend a deadline it set for Tuesday allowing the machines to operate legally. After Tuesday, the court’s stay on its previously issued order that found the devices to be illegal slot machines will expire, and law enforcement can prosecute places that keep using them. “It’s pretty ugly when

Pennsylvania’s Single Payer System Has a Democracy Probkem

By Seth Higgins The bill in the Pennsylvania General Assembly to create a single-payer healthcare system in Pennsylvania is a fascinating document. Not because it is likely to become law. Even if Democrats take the Pennsylvania Senate while maintaining the governorship and House this November – a real possibility – this bill is still dead on arrival. Instead, what makes this bill fascinating is what it says about the party. Democrats cast themselves as the champions of everyday people while protecting democracy. Their critics say this is a ruse, and instead the party is concerned with increasingly niche interest groups while handing power over to unelected bureaucrats. Democrats counter that such accusations are nothing more than partisan hogwash designed to

The 2026 Politics of Contempt and Rage

The Democrat Party was once in America’s political mainstream. Today, though, the party’s motivating objective is the accumulation, consolidation, and retention of power by any means necessary, including cheating, lawfare, and, for many, violence, with no regard for accountability, defending America’s Constitution, or upholding the rule of law. The American traditions and institutions that Democrats once embraced are now seen as impediments to one-party rule. In addition, it’s become clear that many (most?) Democrats aspire to rule an America they don’t love. Incumbent Somali-Muslim Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has said that America is one of the worst countries in the world. Pennsylvania State Representative and congressional candidate Chris Rabb, a Philadelphia Democrat, has denounced the Declaration of Independence. Massachusetts Senate Democrat Elizabeth

Divided Power a Deliberate, Necessary Safeguard

Calls for a larger federal government are hardly new. What is remarkable is how often advocates of big government socialism assume that electing the right people in Washington is enough to remake the country. It isn’t. The Constitution was designed to resist centralized government based on the ideas of the Declaration of Independence and the healthy skepticism of our founders that they had with the concentration of power in a central government. Thus, in our system of government, political power is divided not only among Congress, the executive branch, and the courts, but also between Washington and the states. That division is not an inconvenience. This decentralized government through federalism is one of the very safeguards of American liberty. Consider

Data Centers: Too Many Unanswered Questions

By Col. Craig Carlson There are too many unanswered questions about the impact of data centers to make informed decisions currently.  People like Josh Shapiro initially saw the money and joyfully supported it until the public rose up to say, “wait a minute.”  We don’t know what the second, third and fourth order effects are going to be on our environment, our privacy, our electricity, our communities, and our farmland. The companies behind this are offering outrageous amounts of money for properties.  This indicates they want it real bad and we, the people, will probably get it real bad.  Before we take this blind leap into an unknown future we need to reign in our enthusiasm until we get answers

PushBack Endorses John Joyce for PA 13th

When Dr. John Joyce won the eight-candidate GOP congressional primary in 2018 with a meager 22% of the vote, some of us figured he would be just another corporate lackey in Congress. We were wrong. The man thinks like a doctor, not a career politician. A deep dive into his congressional voting record reveals a quiet but unmistakable commitment to a conservative, America First agenda. Performance Grade A– See our analysis While unwelcome lobbying influence may still be at play, we’ve seen him vote the right way when his predecessor, Bill Shuster, would not have. To the relief of the district, there have been no obvious signs of the casual corruption of the past. He maintains frequent dialogue with populist-minded
