The Fetterman Show Upstages Josh Shapiro

As the days get longer and pumpkin spice takes over the known universe the General Election season is in high gear headed toward its early November showdown. Every four years voters in Penn’s woods elect a governor. Especially in a year when a U.S. Senate seat is also not up for grabs the gubernatorial campaign and its candidates command the spotlight. But that isn’t happening this year. Governor Josh Shapiro, continuing his inexorable journey from womb to White House, is seeking re-election. His campaign has less to do with winning another four years to occupy the mansion on the Susquehanna than it does with positioning himself in a crowded Democrat Primary race filled with candidates who are better known nationwide. McCormick Supports Sean Parnell for Secretary of the Army

(The Center Square) – U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick, R-Pa., has offered his support for Sean Parnell as chatter continues that he could be a candidate to lead the U.S. Army. “There have been a lot of stories of late about @SeanParnellUSA being considered to be our next Secretary of the Army,” McCormick wrote Thursday on social media. “I hope it’s true.” Parnell, a combat veteran who serves as a senior advisor and assistant to the Secretary of War for Public Affairs, is a native of western Pennsylvania. “Sean is a good friend, a decorated combat veteran, a true patriot, and a fellow Pennsylvanian. As I said when he joined the Trump administration, Dina and I are very proud of him

Don’t Turn Back the Clock on Pennsylvania’s Electric Choice

By John Hanger In the mid-1990s, Pennsylvania was plagued with inefficient power generation, soaring prices, and rolling blackouts. Electric rates were 15% higher than the national average, and Philadelphia and Pittsburgh residential electricity prices were among the 10 highest in the country. The Electricity Generation Customer Choice and Competition Act changed all of that — and the results have been nothing short of remarkable. But a little-known settlement agreement that is now before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) would quietly but devastatingly end retail electricity choice for more than 2 million First Energy customers, throwing away nearly three decades of hard-won progress. It should be rejected. By eliminating retail electricity choice for customers in the Met-Ed, Penn Power, Penelec,

Tough Love: No Bail-Out for Socialism-Embracing Cities

Mayor Mandani’s calling out a property owner in New York City; Attorney General James of New York attacking President Trump in a decision that was overturned in 2025; or Elon Musk’s Delaware pay package ruling subsequently overruled by shareholders, all have the same thing in common: attack capital and do not be shocked by the flight of capital from your communities or states. New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles are just a few of the cities experimenting with the Democrat Socialist of America agenda, a modified form of communism.  The consequences of their actions have not yet begun to be felt but when they are the outcomes will be catastrophic. These trends will lead our nation to a decision point

Fed Bets Economy Can Absorb Higher Interest Rates

(The Center Square) – The Federal Reserve raised interest rates last week for the first time since 2023, lifting its target range by a quarter point to 3.75%–4.00%. The vote was unanimous. Before the meeting, I had two questions. We now have answers. First, would the Fed continue treating inflation as a supply-shock story? In July, policymakers blamed some of the increase on energy supply shocks – the kind of price pressure central banks generally try to look through. That language disappeared from the new statement. In its place: “inflation remains elevated” and a commitment to achieve a “timelier return” to 2%. The Fed has stopped looking through the shock. Second, was this a one-time hike or the beginning of

Fetterman and How the Democrat Party has Changed

(This article appears at Real Clear Pennsylvania.) For U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, September may be the cruelest month. Here’s what fellow Pennsylvania Democrats have said about him on the record: “John Fetterman is a disgrace,” “Pathetic behavior…no sense of duty,” “Constantly MIA as our Senator.” “Gravely disappointed.” But recall, as we hear this Democratic vitriol and anger, Fetterman votes with Democrats 95% of the time. He does not vote like any Republican Senator. These quotes come on the heels of the suspicious exposé in the Wall Street Journal. The report, essentially a hit piece, was to show a man disinterested in his job, lacking the stamina, focus, and maturity to be a U.S. Senator. Countless former staffers, rarely quoted by
